Well EA has announced that it has no games in development for the Wii U. This is one of those things that is half news and half not news. Think about it what has EA published on a Nintendo console that anyone has actually boiught? I can’t think of a single little thing published by them for the Wii let alone the current Wii U. So what makes this significant? Besides the fact that everyone else seems to be doing the same thimg?

EA is still a multimillion dollar publisher. It’s one of the most powerful corporations involved in the video game industry today. Which is pretty surprising considered EA is constantly stated as being the worst and most hated company in the world. Worst yet there was an international pole which determined that EA was the defacto most hated company. How’s that for a morale boost?

Why isn’t there any games for the Wii U? Well there’s been rumors about a backdoor deal where EA tried to force Nintendo into usingg Origin as their official online service. Which will not be linked to here because it’s only rumors and may be the biggest conspiracy since the arcade era. The other more boring more likely scenario is the simple fact that Wii U can not run the Frostbite engine nor the Unreal Engine 4 that EA uses for all of it’s current games.

Once again that last one seems far more likely and makes sense. I know everyone loves to paint EA as some huge evil corporation but come on that doesn’t mean that it’s at the level of evil backroom deals in shady warehouses. This isn’t the movies.

Megaman games online

Gears of War Judgement is getting another expansion pack. That’s all I’m saying about it. Now, I’d like to go on record saying that I’ve never played any of the gears of war games. Why you ask? Well because for one I don’t like First Person Shooter Games and for two I don’t like war games.

I know many of you think that I have missed out. I probably have but if Yatzhee’s reviews are any indication then I can live with myself not playing them. On the other hand I do like action games but they seem a bit much .And probably the worst criticism about the Gears of War series is the fact that they pioneered cover based combat.

I do have to be a little iffy on that cover based combat has been around forever what Gears of War added was chest high walls. And this is just boring and annoying. I don’t like to play peak a boo every 3 minutes to shoot someone. It just takes away from my fun.

Up until now everything I’ve said about the game is based off of what everyone else has said about the game and things I’ve heard about it, but now I’d like to offer up my own personal testimony based off of what I’ve seen from the game being played by my friends. I saw a giant worm thing burst out of the river and people were shooting at it trying to kill it. Admittedly that was pretty cool. Hammer of God also pretty cool. On top of all of that the coolest thing I’ve ever seen was chainsawing an alien in close quarters combat. That being said I’ll probably never play the game.

TimeGate Studios has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

This should hardly come as a surprise for anyone who knows what their latest game was. For you see that TimeGate is one of the CoDevellopers for Aliens Colonial Marines. Remember that game? The buggy mess of a game that shouldn’t have existed. Yea, I’ll go ahead and say what everyone else has said about the game the code never should have been written for that atrocity. But that is no surprise. I assumed right out of the starting gate that Aliens Colonial Marines would be a terrible game. Why? Because Movie Franchise that’s why.

There is one person that I feel sorry for though. Who is that? Angry Joe. That man has been singing praises for the game since it was announced and he nearly broke down when he had to put Aliens Colonial Marines on the same pedestal as Terminator Salvation. Meaning that the developers didn’t even care about the game.

By itself Colonial Marines is a bad game but it gets far worst. Because for one no-one even knows who is to blame for making the game. It’s gone through so many different studios that no-one knows which developer did anything if at all.

Let’s go from the to. Ok, I can’t because like I said I didn’t buy the game because I knew it was terrible so I’ll leave you with an Angry Joe review but first I want to ask if anyone else has never played a game where the AI was so bad that the aliens just saw you said “What’s up.” And walked off like you never existed?

Well it’s that time again. Time for a WiiU update. I know what you’re thinking what cool new feature that was supposed to be out at launch will be released today? If that isn’t what you’re thinking than you obviously don’t pay attention to much Nintendo news outside of game releases, and the answer to that question is NONE! Yep, nothing new released. What there is, however, is faster load times.

Granted I don’t own a WiiU so I don’t have first hand knowledge but if there was one thing everyone has said about the system so far is that it takes far too long to load up than it should and that doesn’t just end at starting load the games themselves take far too long to load as well. To make things even worst when people first bought the system upon upstart new owners were greeted with a nice long hour long download to download a day one patch. This new patch also takes one hour to download so I hope you aren’t planning on buying a WiiU anytime soon as you’ll be subjected to a nice two hour long download before you can do anything with the system.

This all just begs the question. Why weren’t these issues ironed out before release? I know Iwata himself has gone on record apologizing for not trying hard enough with the WiiU but this is just absurd. This goes far beyond the realm of not trying and into the nice long terrible world of just not caring about their product at all let alone their loyal fans. I can see this happening with a new upstart but not a giant that most of us have grown up playing and loving. Get your stuff together Nintendo.

The new Xbox will finally unveil itself on May 21. It’s the day nobody has been waiting for. I mean seriously everything we’ve heard about the machine up until and including now just show that it’s not going to be worth our collective time and effort to even bother to get the new machine.

I remember watching one episode of The Game Overthinker where Bob was watching an old gaming video from the 80s and he noted just how happy the host was. Just how excited the host was and started wondering just what happened to change everything.

There was also a Screwattack video where people were contrasting the launches of the Xbox Gamecube and PS2 versus today’s launches. The whole time two generations ago every piece of news that came out was good news. The new consoles would have everything we ever wanted and then some. Compared t now where every piece of news for the new consoles spell gloom and doom.

Once again what happened? How come we can’t have good news? I’m reminded about Yahtzee’s new video series. If the game consoles were cars then, we’d never buy them. Heck, we’d never even consider buying them. I mean what’s the point? It’s a car I need to know the specifications. Why won’t they release hardware specifications and show us what the new games will look like? Are they all hiding something? I hope the new Xbox drops the always on gimicks and just let’s us all have what we want.

Just let us play games.

Hey everyone and welcome back. It’s been a little while since I last posted. I started having some computer problems this week and I’ve got them all sorted out now so it won’t be an issue any longer. That being said let’s get this ball rolling again. Today I’m going to be talking about a brand new web series launched on the Escapist Website.

You’ll never guess what it is. It’s about Yahtzee and oddly enough also about Jim Sterling only unlike they’re current shows format they’re reading poetry. Now if you’re anything like me then you probably don’t care for nor even like poetry. But this poetry is different;. It’s poetry from internet personalities that I actually like and on top of that. It’s actually good and very funny.

Yahtzee wrote a masterful poem about the state of the industry while staring at the camera intently acting as if he was a salesman while Jim wrote a flowery poem about Sim City and always online DRM. They were very novel topics yet very topical. Especially for the state of the industry at this moment. Overall it’s a great first episode for this series and you should all go watch it!

I feel very surprised about how interesting the series is. Especially considering it’s a series about poems. I can’t wait to see what next week’s episode will be. Of course this is assuming that is indeed a weekly series and I hope it is because the Escapist needs new content especially new video content from interesting people and none are more interesting than Yahtzee

Today we’re going to talk about an interesting news snippet. There was a man stabbed in a Taiwan internet café and the news story about the man getting caught? Nope. The story is about how very few people actually bothered to stop and take a look at the man who just got stabbed let alone the stabber. Heck the one closest to the stabbing had blood splatter on her clothes and she didn’t even stop her game to pay attention.

In that girl’s defense back when I was playing World of Warcraft someone probably could have gotten stabbed next to me and I probably wouldn’t have noticed either. I’ve always had great focus to the point of zoning out and ignoring everything else going on next to me. As for whether or not I actually would ignore a man dying next to me. I doubt it. I just couldn’t put a game over a person’s life like that even at the height of my Warcraft addiction.

Another thing to take note of is that incident happened in /Taiwan/ in my mind I can’t wrap my head around someone standing around during that incident unless out of shock. In Taiwan on the other hand the culture might be different. Can you imagine the dedication instilled in a person if they don’t deviate from their current task to the point of a person getting killed next to them? See you can put a positive spin on even the most morbid stories if you only try hard enough.

Today we’re going to talk about the Adam Orth scandal that’s been going on at Microsoft. For those of you who don’t know Adam Orth is a Microsoft executive who went on Twitter to complain about how he doesn’t see what the big deal is about having a console being always online because in his mind we’re already always online now.

I always have a connection to the internet in my house and everywhere with my smartphone. So do the majority of the people I Know, but that doesn’t mean I want my games to always be online. The biggest concern is my mind is server issues.

We have not seen a single launch yet that didn’t have server issues. But even worst than that think about the future. What if all of your nes and snes games were connected to the server? Can you imagine not being able to play the original Super Mario Bros game because the servers were cut offline?

Think about your favorite franchise and realize that servers beign shut down is a reality and a problem in /this/ console generation and realize that if those games were always online it would be impossible to play the games you paid for.

Of course all of this is just looking at what Orth said as being true. That being said America’s online infrastructure is far to brittle to be able to guarantee the internet being available 24/7 to the entire country meaning that a lot of people will just ignore the next Xbox if it always online. Is that really what Microsoft wants?

Today I want to talk about Megaman The Power Fighters. It was a very interesting arcade game. Or so I’m told. I played the game by unlocking it on the Megaman Collection for the Nintendo Gamecube. It was just an added bonus in the game and because of that it had to be unlocked by completing Megaman 1 through 8.

Power Fighters was a very fun game. Just like every other Megaman game it was a boss rush. But unlike every other Megaman game there were no stages and no platforming whatsoever it just show up and fight the boss fighting game style.

Think about how much fun that is. Especially once you get to Wily’s castle and fight the red demon. And did I mention this is a 2 player coop game? I’ve wasted hours playing this game with my friends. I recommend trying ti out. But there is a problem with this game.

What problem could that be? It’s too short. I mean really. It’s very very short. For instance you can beat the entire game in less than 30 minutes and that’s not even if you know what you’re doing. I mean the first time you start the game up you can beat the whole game in less than 30 minutes. Especially on the collection because you get unlimited continues. Mid fight. You can die after getting the boss down to half health then start right back up from that point and finish the fight. It’s worth a play but be aware that it’s a short game. That being said I love Megaman Games.

Defiance sounds like a very interesting game. It’s an online first person shooter mmo. Think about if borderlands was an mmo. Wouldn’t that be amazing?  The only difference? The graphics Defiance uses a scifi  aesthetic and it’s realistic with great graphics.

Of course there’s plenty of quests in the game and of course gear upgrades. Still think about it. What’s the #1 thing a mmo game needs? A community or more specifically. You’re friends. So do you any of your friends play Defiance? If not then go ahead and talk to them about playing it. If all else fails you can lone wolf the game by yourself but still a mmo game is always better with your friends. I can’t imagine slogging through as much World of Warcraft as I have without my friends.

The other interesting part about this game is the game is free aim. Meaning it’s a mmo game but unlike World of Warcraft or Guildwars or really any of the other mmos this game plays like your average fps. You can aim with your mouse and click to shoot. Think about how amazing that is. This is the first mmo game with a dexterity component, and not on your character either. It’s your own dexterity that’s being challenged.

The interesting thing about mmo games is that I can no longer play them. Yet I usually start to think about them and about all of the fun I’ve had playing them. I spent a large chunk of time playing them and I don’t regret any part of it.
